Preston festivals

As Lancashire Encounter festival approaches this weekend (Sept 23-25, 2016) it’s worth remembering thas, as far as public festivals and processions go, this unfashionable northern town is better than most.

From Preston Guild processions (which sees four or five huge events within a month, albeit only once every 20 years) to the Caribbean Carnival, Remembrance Day and Lancashire Encounter itself, these public events are a huge part of the city’s culture.

They almost always involved, or and up at, the Flag market in front of The Harris. Here’s some photos.
